The United Way of Crawford County was formed in January of 2013. This formation was the result of a merger of three previous United Way's in Crawford County; Bucyrus, Crestine & Galion.
The United Ways in Bucyrus, Crestline and Galion operated effectively for many years, some with part-time or volunteer-only staff. However, with the significant loss of industry in Crawford County and the resulting shortfalls in fundraising, it became very difficult for volunteers and part-time staff to maintain operations. After a number of unsuccessful attempts to add to local volunteers and increase campaign income, the three United Way boards of trustees began discussions on merging their operations in order to become more efficient, effective and fiscally responsible to their donors.
Today, the United Way of Crawford County Board of Trustees is made up of local professionals representing all areas of the county. They meet once per month and serve on various committees with many other UWCC volunteers.
